MANILA, Philippines - Eight Cabinet members and 15 businessmen accompanied President Aquino on his three-day official visit to the United Kingdom on June 4-6.

The Cabinet members are Secretaries Manuel Roxas II of transportation and communications, Cesar Purisima of finance, Voltaire Gazmin of defense, Gregory Domingo of trade and industry, Ramon Jimenez of tourism, Jose Rene Almendras of energy and Ricky Carandang of the Presidential Communications for Development and Strategic Planning Office.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario had to stay for visiting US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey.

The businessmen include Lance Gokongwei of Cebu Pacific, Aurelio Montinola of Bank of the Philippine Islands, Andrew Tan of Megaworld, Tessie Sy-Coson of the SM Group of Companies, Jesus Tambunting, Raul Ang and Eric Gutierrez, among others.

Ang and Gutierrez will also be among the 18 businessmen in the Washington delegation of Aquino.

Among the businessmen in the Washington delegation are Tony Tan-Caktiong of Jollibee, Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Washington Sycip, Manuel Pangilinan, Enrique Razon, Doris Ho, and Guillermo Luz. Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. will head the caretaker committee.

Vice President Jejomar Binay has yet to arrive home from abroad.

Ochoa said the government will spend a total of P87.1 million for Aquino’s joint UK and US official visits.

Aquino will hold bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister David Cameron and US President Barack Obama, he added.

After his UK trip, Aquino will proceed to the US for a working visit from June 6-8 on the invitation of Obama.

Philippine Ambassador to Washington Jose Cuisia Jr., Philippine Ambassador to London Enrique Manalo and Presidential Protocol Chief and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs Miguel Perez-Rubio are included in the presidential entourage.

The expenses cover accommodation, telecommunications, transportation, food and equipment, among others, for Aquino and his official party.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Aquino will hold a bilateral meeting with Cameron to discuss the Philippines-UK political and economic cooperation, Britain’s participation in the International Contact Group (ICG) for the peace process, anti-corruption and good governance practices of both countries, and other regional and international concerns.

Aquino will also meet with several major British investors, take part in the Philippine fun tourism campaign and dialog with the Filipino community in the UK, which is the largest in Europe, the DFA added.

Aquino will fly to Washington for a one-on-one meeting with Obama at the Oval Office, their fourth meeting since 2010.

The DFA said US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will host a luncheon in honor of Aquino and his delegation at the Benjamin Franklin State Dining Room of the State Department.

Aquino is also scheduled to meet with leaders of the US Senate at a reception organized by Senate President Pro Tempore Daniel Inouye at Capitol Hill, the DFA added.

He will be guest of honor at the launch of the US-Philippines Society, a private sector initiative designed to boost economic ties, promote trade and investment, support common strategic and political goals, and strengthen cultural, technological, educational and people-to-people linkages, the DFA said.

Before heading home to Manila, Aquino will stop by Los Angeles to meet with the Filipino-American community, which represents about 3.1 percent of the city’s population.
